Whitsunday Diving Academy Team
Wayne Abraham – PADI COURSE DIRECTOR
Wayne has held the top PADI instructor qualification of PADI Course Director for over 20 years and is passionate about delivering the highest possible diver education.
Wayne has worked in the dive industry for the last 24 years full time, in that time he has worked in Dive Centre’s, Resorts, Charter Boats and Skipper/Lead Camera for Big Fish Productions making DVDs of marine life around New Zealand. Working in these different areas of diving has given him a broad range of experience that he brings to Whitsunday Diving Academy. This enables him to prepare PADI Professionals to work in these areas as well as holiday makers to travel abroad.
Wayne is very active in teaching scuba diving from Open Water Divers through to Instructors and 21 Specialties including Wreck, Deep, UW Photo, UW Video and DPV (UW Scooter!). Which is his favourite course to teach? “The one that allows me to blow bubbles!”.
Wayne has won many awards for his Diver Training in New Zealand at Diver level and Instructor level. He has taught snorkeling/scuba diving for many schools and has boxes of “Thank You” cards from the students.
Wayne has been involved with Tertiary Diver Training all over New Zealand, which has Diver Training on the national education framework. This has provided job opportunities for school leavers as well as for some of the long term unemployed. This aspect excites him, because the Whitsundays & Great Barrier Reef are world renowned, so the opportunities to enter into tourism through diving are almost endless.
His life before diving was a carpenter and builder. Wayne has swapped his work boots for fins, his skill saw for a regulator and building site for a beach. He brings a very practical approach and attitude to scuba diving.
Diving has gone from a hobby to a full time passion. Wayne introduces new divers to a challenging and fun experience. Divers going on to a professional level will get to see the industry through experienced and positive eyes.
Life ambition? “When I grow up I want to be a Dolphin!”
