The PADI Assistant Instructor Course is another step up the PADI Professional’s ladder, this rating opens many more opportunities, both challenging and rewarding. Throughout the course you will refine your scuba diving skills to an Instructor level, your diving knowledge will be accessed and your knowledge of the PADI training system will be polished. There are confined water, Openwater and classroom presentations to give, so your public speaking will be polished also. All of these sessions will be conducted in a relaxed enjoyable manner to show that teaching diving is an occupation filled with “serious fun”.

If you enjoy scuba diving and are looking for an opportunity to work part time or full time in the Dive Industry, this is your starting point, with work here in Australia or in other parts of the world. The positions available in the Dive Industry are varied and challenging, Dive Centre’s, Live-aboard Dive Boats, Underwater Photography/Videography on board day boats and Resorts. As a PADI Assistant Instructor you will have access to the Pro’s section of the PADI Website, this is where the employment board is, here there are a lot of Dive Centre’s, Charter Boats, Resorts advertising positions to be filled.

Whether you want a career change or just want something more challenging in scuba diving, this is the course that will do that for you, come and join the ranks of PADI Professionals who have to “blow bubbles” for a living. Course Prerequisites for PADI Assistant Instructor

PADI Divemaster, or leadership level with another diver training agency
18 year old
60 logged dives, documented experience in Night diving, Deep diving and Underwater Navigation
Certified diver for six (6) months
Medical clearance attesting to dive fitness signed by a physician within the previous 12 months
Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care course completion (or qualifying training) within the last 24 months
If not a PADI Divemaster, complete the PADI Divemaster course dive rescue assessment and submit documentation of qualifying certifications for entry level, advanced, rescue and leadership level to PADI
Certification Requirements for PADI Assistant Instructor

Successfully completed all required segments of the PADI Assistant Instructor Course
Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care course completion within the last 24 months (or qualifying training)
60 logged dives
Documented experience in Underwater Navigation
Documented experience in Night Diving
Documented experience in Deep Diving
PADI Assistant Instructor Duties

Present the knowledge development elaboration for any PADI course under the Instructor’s indirect supervision. The Instructor personally assesses student knowledge development
Present initial skills training under the Instructor’s direct supervision during confined water dives
Conduct Openwater skills evaluations during Openwater Diver course dives under the Instructor’s indirect supervision
Teach and certify Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty divers under the direction of an Instructor
Independently teach the Project AWARE (non diving) Specialty Course
Independently teach the AWARE Coral Reef Conservation (non divng) Specialty Course
Independently conduct Discover Scuba Diving in a pool or confined water
Independently conduct Bubblemaker programs
Independently conduct PADI seal Team Aqua Missions
Teach and certify divers in Specialty courses that don’t include dives, after completing Specialty Instructor Training Courses and earning Specialty Instructor ratings for such specialties
After completing the corresponding Instructor Training and earning Specialty Instructor ratings, conduct Digital Underwater Photography Specialty courses under the direction of a PADI Instructor
As well as the PADI Divemaster Duties listed below

Supervise both training and non-training activities by planning, organizing and directing
Assist an Instructor during confined and Openwater training Guide
Openwater course students on the tour portion of Openwater Dives 2,3 and 4 at a 2:1 ratio, under the Instructor’s indirect supervision
Accompany Openwater students under the Instructor’s indirect supervision during surface swims to and from the entry/exit point and during navigational exercises; as well as supervise remaining students when the Instructor conducts a skill
Accompany student divers during Adventure Dives or Specialty course dives under the Instructor’s indirect supervision
Teach and certify PADI Skin Divers independently. This also includes conducting the PADI Seal Team Aqua Mission: Skin Diver Specialist
Conduct the Discover Snorkelling program
Conduct subsequent dives under the Instructor’s indirect supervision for Discover Scuba Diving participants at a 2:1 ratio, after participants have satisfactorily completed the first dive with the Instructor
Conduct the Discover Local Diving experience
Conduct the Scuba Review program for certified divers, or for PADI Scuba Divers who are refreshing their skills
Conduct the skin diving skills segment of the Openwater Diver course during any confined water dive
If qualified as a Discover Scuba Diving Leader, independently conduct Discover Scuba Diving in a pool or in confined Openwater
Accompany certified PADI Scuba Diving on subsequent dives
After completing the corresponding Instructor Training, you will be able to conduct

Digital Underwater Photographer specialty courses under the direction of a PADI Instructor
Emergency Oxygen Provider courses

What you need

Mask, Fins and Snorkel
Exposure Suit appropriate for the local environment
Weight Belt
Regulator with SPG (Submersible Pressure Gauge)
Alternate Air Source suitable for sharing air
BCD with low pressure inflator
Complete instrumentation, including a means to monitor depth, time and direction
Dive bag
Knife/divers tool capable of cutting line
Two surface signalling devices – one audible (whistle/air horn), one visible (inflatable surface tube, flare)
Instructions for use for dive computer or RDP/eRDPML
Speak to the Whitsunday Diving Academy team about hire rates for dive students

Questions and Schedule
This adventure can be conducted over four (4) full days or on a part time basis, so that way you are still able to work and spend time at home. For the classroom and pool session you will need to bring your “knowledge review” completed for each of the modules, swimmers, towel and personal dive equipment. For the Openwater days you will need lunch, water bottle, swimmers, towel, hat, sun block and personal dive equipment.
